Context
Hiive is an iOS app that combines a social network, an online store and a place to earn. People buy products after reading reviews, or make video reviews and earn money. The concept serves buyers, bloggers and brands, across ages and levels of digital literacy.
Problem
- The persona, Helen, is a photographer and parent with little free time.
- She can’t quickly buy fashion items she sees in video reviews, and she has little time to watch long reviews.
What I did
- Compared TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Amazon and Comfy: preference algorithms, video playback, product structure, discounts, payments, advertising and category navigation.
- Built personas, user stories, an empathy map and a problem statement.
- Used Crazy Eights sketching to prioritise features (product detail, discount calendar), then drew detailed wireframes.
- Handed artefacts to the project manager. An outsourcing studio produced the visual mockups. I stayed in touch with developers through launch.
Deliverables
- Competitive audit and comparison table
- Personas, user stories, empathy map, problem statement
- Wireframes: home and order, login and onboarding, profile and product, discount calendar
- Analytics plan (retention, feature usage, onboarding funnel)
- Handoff documentation for developers
Outcome
The app launched on the App Store.
